Abstract

Why is it necessary to be talking about love in midwifery? The most striking thing about maternity care systems, when looking at research and reports of these \ systems worldwide, is the distinct lack of care, and featuring instead obstetric violence and racism, birth trauma, increased mortality for marginalised populations, dysfunctional institutions, and disenfranchised midwives (Davis, 2019; Fleszar et al., 2023; Foster et al., 2024; Newnham et al., 2018; Sadler et al., 2016; Thomas, 2024; Watson et al., 2021; World Health Organization, 2014), and a system of care that does not live up to its name, or its purpose.
